Back at the blog...

Well, it has been a minute...most of my blurbs have been coming via twitter and facebook, but it feels like I should be blogging again too.

Recent developments have me in the studio creating lots of clocks in preparation for the 2012 Summer Art Market at the Art Student's League of Denver www.asld.org.This is a wonderful annual market featuring about 200 Colorado artists, all of them members of the League, some of them faculty at the League, some students, and a lot of professional artists, like me. I am excited about this year's show, as this is the best collection of my work that will be exhibited in the 8 or so years that I have done this market. Each year, i feel like I have grown my art and refined my process. The market is June 9 and 10 on the blocks surrounding the League at 200 Grant St. in Denver. This year is the 20th annual Summer Art Market. Most patrons have said that this show is Denver's best...better than the Cherry Creek Art's Fest...it is pretty dang awesome.

Congratulations to Hazel & Dewey for winning Westword magazine's 2012 Best of Denver award for Best Kitchen Shop. Jenna has accomplished so much since she opened last July. Her store is amazing and truly one of the best shops of any kind in the state. She liked my clocks since the get-go and has been selling them quickly since she opened up. www.hazel-dewey.com

I was invited last summer to create a mask for the Mask Project to benefit Denver Hospice. This invitation was sentimental to me as my mother has been under the care of Denver Hospice since last summer and the nurse she has is doing a great job. Each year, the Mask Project raises thousands of dollars for hospice care through an auction of masks created by artists from all over. This year I was asked to make a clock mask and  it was a fun challenge and I am proud of the result. Most of the masks will be on display at the Cherry Creek Mall in Denver starting in mid April through mid May. The bidding can be done live or online. fox dream sky

'fox & dream sky'

this is my newest painting which will be featured in a group show at the Denver Art Gallery (DAG) during the month of November 2011. this piece is acrylic on canvas 30in. x 40in. the fox is walking through a forest with a miro-esque dreamy sky.  great layers in this piece.

Koi kite forest

Here is another kite piece. 30in. X 40in. Acrylic on canvas. The whale kite pieces feature a boy, but this one, 'koi kite forest' is the debut of this girl on a windy day in a coniferous forest. The trees are layered and transluscent mostly. This painting will be @ the denver art gallery as part of a group show in november with 3 other pieces, all 30in. X 40in. I will also have many smaller paintings as well as clocks (clocks are always available here) @ hazel and dewey during November and December. Perfect places to get your holiday shopping done!

So I made this piece with the thought of it as a smaller version of a larger piece...that still may be so. I also thought about making it a clock after photography, but it has struck me as a great painting. It is mars black and titanium white acrylic and that is it. Not mixed just layered and mapped out to reveal the imagery. It is a piece with lots of thought.

Finished product...

The newest clock is complete & this morning I submitted jpeg's for a juried show. So up next is a black & white fox & teepees clock while I am thinking about a new large painting with the boy and his whale kite. Hazel & Dewey has invited me to do another show at the shop for fall or winter (awesome!) and I will be getting some new pieces ready for that. Stay tuned...stay cool...stay in love with art!
